Gunshot victim walks into hospital, arrest made

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Police arrested a shooting suspect early Monday morning after a man walked into a Portland hospital with a bullet wound.

Portland police said the gunshot victim walked into Portland Adventist Hospital around 4 a.m.

The 42-year-old man, the roommate of the alleged shooter, was wounded in the leg. He is expected to recover.

Police learned the shooting may have occurred at a house near NE 127th Ave. and NE Rose Parkway, and were tipped off by hospital security the victim may have been dropped off.

Nathan Steven Newitt, 41, was arrested at the Northeast Portland home. Police say the two were arguing when the shooting occurred.

Newitt’s arraignment is set for Tuesday.
