PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Scappoose priest was arrested in Los Angeles for allegedly trying to lure a girl into his car a month ago.
Fr. Michael Patrick was in Los Angeles on his way back from a trip to Australia when the arrest was made. The incident allegedly happened in Vancouver, Washington on March 10.
He has been charged with luring. Vancouver police said the priest is suspected of driving his vehicle beside a teenage girl and persistently asking to give her a ride despite her refusals
The warrant for his arrest was carried out Friday in LA, and he remains in jail in Los Angeles at this time.
The priest is assigned to St. Wenceslaus in Scappoose.. KOIN 6 News learned there have been a number of meetings held about this, and some church members have expressed frustration since the alleged incident did not happen at or near the church.
“The Archdiocese had no prior knowledge of the pending charge, and is trying to get in contact with Fr. Patrick,” said archdiocese spokesperson Bud Bunce in a statement. “To date we have been unsuccessful.”
Originally from Sri Lanka, Fr. Patrick has been with St. Wenceslaus since 1998.
