PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — After some recent vandalism at the Portland Central Library, officials decided it was time to try and prevent problems before they start.
The vandalism included some broken windows, graffiti and behavior problems at various sites.
Multnomah County will now hire a safety and security manager for their libraries in an effort to thwart issues ahead of time.
“Our goal with this new position is to be proactive,” said Shawn Cunningham with the Multnomah County libraries.
Security cameras installed at the Central Library could play an increased role as could security officers.
The new manager will earn up to $93,000 a year to review the overall Multnomah County system of 20 libraries to come up with ideas and solutions.
