PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregon State Police’s Criminal Division is investigating the unexpected death of an inmate at an Umatilla prison Thursday.

Dean Wayne Guiley, 53, was found dead in his housing unit at the Two Rivers Correctional Institution (TRCI) at roughly 7:00 a.m., prison officials said in a statement.

Guiley was serving time for three counts of kidnapping and one count of assault from Lane County, Ore. and had been in custody since August 2001.

His earliest release date was January 2043.

TRCI, which houses roughly 1,800 men, is a medium to minimum security facility.

The Oregon Department of Corrections will release the findings of the investigation as it unfolds.
