LONG BEACH, Wash. (KOIN) — A man ended a standoff with police in Long Beach, Washington, on Monday after apparently starting a fire in his trailer and then fatally shooting himself.
The Pacific County Communications Center received a 911 call at 11:50 a.m. that a person was shot in the Safe Haven trailer park located in the 1300 block of Pacific Avenue. Responding officers and deputies said the victim manged to leave the area.
Police said they helped evacuate the area and located the suspect in a trailer at the park.
Officers said they attempted to speak with the suspected shooter when they noticed smoke emerging from the trailer. The suspect emerged from the trailer with a firearm and walked a short distance away from the trailer before fatally shooting himself, police said.
Meanwhile, the trailer became fully engulfed by flames and was destroyed, according to police.
Initial reports indicated that the suspect and victim knew each other and both resided in the trailer park.
The Long Beach Police Department will continue to investigate this incident.
