BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN) — A girl fell out of a second-story window from a house in Beaverton and remains hospitalized at this time.

The girl was rushed to OHSU after she fell on Sunday. Officials told KOIN 6 News she was conscious and alert after the fall from a window on Snowy Owl Lane.

The girl hit the eave, landed on a car and then hit the pavement, officials said.

“A fall from two stories and striking their head could be catastrophic,” Beaverton Police spokesperson Mike Rowe said. “It could potentially lead to death.”

Statistics show more than 3000 children under the age of 6 fall from windows every year.

Rowe said there are easy ways for parents to protect their kids.

“Knowing where your children are at at all times, especially if they’re of the younger age, is of the utmost importance when they’re in the house,” he said. “You can get a wooden dowel, and a lot of home improvement stores sell window locks that you can install.”
