Skyview ninth grader threatens to shoot students

VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — Police in Vancouver arrested a ninth grader Thursday after he threatened to bring a weapon to school and shoot students.

Police said the Skyview High School student’s statements were brought to the attention of school staff after he made the statements to a group of peers and showed them a website where he would acquire a weapon.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers reacted immediately and took the student to the office without incident.

Police said it did not appear that the boy had access to weapons at his home following an investigation into the allegations.

Court documents showed the boy made the threat after others said they would beat him up, but when asked about the threat the boy said he was just kidding.

While the Clark County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers said they make an effort to use every alternative to arrest and incarceration when appropriate, they take all threats of violence at schools “very seriously.”

The student was arrested and transported to juvenile detention.

The student’s name was not released because he is a minor.
