PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Clackamas County, Ore., animal control manager says a large male German Shepherd that apparently triggered an Interstate 205 rollover crash last month as motorists swerved and braked to avoid the animal in the roadway has been euthanized.

The Oregonian reports that Dog Services manager Diana Hallmark says the animal was initially put up for adoption after his owner could not be found and a vet pronounced him healthy.

However, she says he tried several times to bite shelter employees. Hallmark says shelter officials decided it was not safe to place him in a home.

After emergency responders helped drivers and cleared damaged vehicles in the Feb. 21 crash near the Portland suburb of Clackamas, state troopers, a Portland police officer and firefighters captured the dog.

Hallmark says it appeared the dog was not well socialized or well trained.
