SALEM, Ore. (KOIN) — A man who spent more than a decade in Oregon prisons before his three murder convictions were thrown out was told he can go forward with a multi-million dollar lawsuit on Wednesday.
The state argued against Scott Cannon’s lawsuit, stating he waited too long after his release to file it. The Oregon Court of Appeals disagreed and ruled Cannon can move forward with the lawsuit.
Throughout the course of Cannon’s trails, he always claimed he was innocent. Prosecutors decided they could not retry Cannon for the murders near Salem because the evidence was lost.
