PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Demonstrators gathered outside Portland City Hall Wednesday afternoon to demand a major change to livability in the city.

They’re calling for a $15 per hour city-wide minimum wage to fight widespread poverty.

Demonstrators said a higher minimum wage, what they call a “living wage,”  would reduce the number of people on government assistance and food stamps programs, thereby relieving the city’s budget.
