OSO, Wash. (KOIN) — Although one family in Oso, Wash. lost their home in Saturday’s massive mudslide, today they are celebrating.
The family’s dog, Buddy, was trapped inside the house — which moved more than 150-feet — and somehow survived.
“Looking through all of the rubble of our house we just heard the dog whining,” said owner Steve Shirley.
“[I’m] shocked at how well he did against my whole house falling on him.”
The Shirley’s aunt, who lived next door, did not survive.
Rescue efforts continue in Oso where 14 people are confirmed dead, and authorities are working with a list of 176 reports of people who are still unaccounted for.
