PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Firefighters responded to what started as a seemingly normal call: smoke coming from a house.
The situation in North Portland Thursday morning , just after midnight, turned into something else when a firefighter got lost in thick black smoke.
Neighbors reported the smoke at 8025 N. Hudson Ave. was billowing out from the back window and roof line.
Firefighters went into the basement looking for the fire. When the smoke and heat became too intense, fire commanders ordered everyone to pull back, a spokesman said. One firefighter had a difficult time find the stairwell, a spokesman said. An emergency rescue team had to step in and help the firefighter out.
No one was injured. There is no word on what caused the fire.
