WAPATO, Wash. (KOIN) — A man is recovering from hypothermia after a dramatic rescue from the Yakima River in Wapato, Wash. Sunday March 16.
He clung to his car, which was almost fully submerged in rushing water about 100 ft. from shore, while crews conducted a rescue.
It took a swift water rescue team nearly an hour to bring him to shore.
Another passenger was in the car when it went under, but that second person managed to swim to shore.
It is unclear how the vehicle ended up in the river.
