Attack cat going for psych assessment

‘Lux’ the cat is 22 lbs, the size of a small child

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Teresa Barker has owned, her cat, “Lux,” for four years — but she never thought he’d be the subject of a 9-1-1 call.

Owners Teresa Barker and her partner Lee Palmer have been flooded with requests to adopt Lux, the 22-pound cat who had to be coralled by police Monday night, after he attacked her dog and baby. Next week, he is going to the veterinarian for a behavioral assessment.

Barker wants to know whether something physically wrong with Lux is causing his aggressive behavior.

Barker said she called 9-1-1 Monday when she became barricaded in a room, afraid to come out.

“I was scared, I’ll be honest,” she said.

Police said they have little choice but to respond to emergency calls, even if they are about a cat. The 9-1-1 operator who took the call even called her supervisor to make sure she was sending a crew.

Portland Police Sgt. Greg Stewart said police respond to calls of distress.

“Highly unlikely that we wouldn’t go,”said Sgt. Greg Stewart.

Lee and Palmer must decide what to do with Lux once his results come back.
