SALEM, Ore, (KOIN) — A teen accused of killing his mom and wounding his father made his first court appearance Friday, along with his friend and alleged accomplice.
Brett Pearson and Robert Miller both appeared by video in a Marion County courtroom on murder charges. Though they are each 17, they will be tried as adults in the crime.
Late Wednesday night, Michelle Pearson was shot in the neck and chest by a shotgun blast in her home. She was 44. Her husband, Wilfred Pearson, 57, was seriously wounded in the attack.
About two hours later, Brett Pearson and Miller were arrested.
Friends of the families can not believe the accusations.
In a statement, the Pearson family said they “are shocked and disheartened by the events” and called Michelle Pearson a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend.
The teens were ordered held without bail.
