PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 36-year-old man is in custody, accused of robbing a woman at knifepoint Monday night near the tennis courts at David Douglas High School in Southeast Portland.
Police told KOIN 6 News the woman called 911 at around 10:45 p.m. and reported that she had been robbed.
After the call for help, officers responded to the high school, located at 1001 SE 135th Ave., and did an area check. The suspect, later identified as Shauntae D. Owens, was found hiding underneath a front patio in the 12700 block of Southeast Salmon Street. Owens was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on one count each of first-and second-degree robbery. The victim did not suffer any serious physical injuries, police said.
Police have not released the details of what was stolen.
A spokesperson for the David Douglas School District said he was looking into the situation. Portland police said their investigation has revealed there was no connection between the school, victim or suspect.
Owens is expected to appear in Multnomah County Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon.
