PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Montana fugitive was captured in Portland early Friday evening, US Marshals said in a release.

Kevin Anthony Briggs escaped from the Bozeman Police Department on Feb. 1. He was arrested that day for aggravated assault, attempted sexual intercourse without consent, assault on a peace officer, and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution a federal charge brought on from the FBI.

He has earlier convictions for kidnapping and rape.

Tips led investigators to check spots in the Pacific Northwest, and he was seen around 6:45 p.m. in a van in Southeast Portland.

The Portland police K9 unit helped the US Marshals arrest him without incident in the 4100 block of SE Woodward Street.

Briggs, 28, is being held in Multnomah County and will be taken back to Montana.
