GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN) — A 47-year-old Gresham massage therapist was arrested and voluntarily surrendered his license after a client accused him of sexually abusing her.
Andy Page Barker faces harassment and third-degree sex abuse charges for allegedly touching a woman inappropriately during a massage.
The woman, who KOIN 6 News is not identifying because she is the victim of the alleged abuse, said, “I don’t want to be labeled a victim but I now can relate to what victims feel like.”
She said she froze when Barker began to touch her inappropriately. “I was in shock. I froze, like any person would.”
The woman had become good friends with Barker and his wife — who co-owns the massage business off Kelly Avenue near downtown Gresham — and agreed to model for them to help promote their business. They offered here inexpensive facials and massages in return for her modeling.
She said her first massage by Barker was strictly professional, but the second one crossed the line.
“He was just so smooth. He had a system I know, and I had great respect for his wife, too, who is incredible,” she said. “I was hesitant about even reporting it because I didn’t want to hurt her.”
Toward the end of the massage, she said, “it started becoming more inappropriate when he started to massage my shoulders.”
Gresham detectives arrested and cited Barker. He gave up his license pending the outcome of the case.
In an off-camera interview with KOIN 6 News, Barker said, “If I did something inappropriate I never intended to.”
