117 pounds of pot seized from SUV, driver arrested

Oregon State Police troopers found 117 pounds of marijuana inside a gun safe that was in the back of an SUV that was pulled over near Lakeview, Ore.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Police reportedly found 117 pounds of marijuana when they pulled over a Portland man near the Southern Oregon town of Lakeview Thursday afternoon.

Paul William Houfek, 31, was hiding the marijuana in a safe inside a rented 2013 Ford Explorer, according to Oregon State Police. A trooper found the safe after pulling over Houfek for speeding on Highway 140W.

The marijuana was in 94 sealed packets inside a gun safe that was in the back of the SUV. It has a street value of $290,000.

Houfek was lodged in the Lake County Jail on possession, manufacture and distribution of marijuana.
