PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One man was hit and killed by a driver who fled the scene at SE Powell Boulevard and 124th Avenue Saturday night.
The man was hit around 6:25 p.m., PPB officials said, and died at the scene. This is the fifth pedestrian killed in Southeast Portland in the past three months.
The vehicle is a silver minivan and will likely have significant front end and windsheld damage. It was last seen heading east on Powell, authorities said.
A witness told KOIN 6 News she heard an extremely loud crash and was about two car lengths away when the man was hit. He died on impact.
The witness also said she saw other cars drive by after and not stop.
Neighbors want the city to get serious about making safety improvements. They said they’ve long complained that several blocks near this hit-and-run site are dangerous for pedestrians.
