GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN) — The cold and fluctuating temperatures can cause havoc with water pipes. At one Gresham apartment complex it was the sprinkler that caused the damage.

At the Gresham Station Apartments, a complex for those 55 and older, a sprinkler ruptured in the attic and caused a ceiling to collapse and water damage in various apartments.

At least two apartments in the building had the ceiling cave in from the water. One resident, Charlotte Cruser, told KOIN 6 News her apartment was not damaged but she has friends who now need a place to stay.

The water was being vacuumed up and the Red Cross is assisting those who need help.
