ORING, Ore. (KOIN) — A manhunt is underway for a truck driver who shot and killed a Clackamas County weightmaster along the roadside near Boring.

The suspect is Dirck Morgan White, 41, from Edgefield, Washington. Investigators consider him armed and dangerous and anyone who sees him should call 911 immediately.

The shooting happened in the area of Southeast Amisigger Road and Highway 224 just before 11 a.m.

A witness, Elias Duhrkoop, told KOIN 6 News he was running errands and saw a man laying in the road. He stopped and tried to help, but said the county employee was already dead.

“The victim was gone. The victim was lifeless,” Duhrkoop said. He called 911 immediately.

Duhrkoop told KOIN 6 News a man who was on a ride-along with the weightmaster described to him the swift and terrible moments that unfolded. It began when the weightmaster approached an O’Malley Brothers truck pulling a trailer of firewood.

“He had only pulled the guy over because he didn’t have a license plate on the back,” he said. “All he was going to do is inform the guy he didn’t have a license plate.”

He said he heard several shots.

When deputies arrived, the shooter was gone and the weightmaster was dead. His name has not yet been publicly released.

Investigators confirmed that White is in some way connected to O’Malley Brothers, a company near Estacada. A SWAT unit moved into the business that sells and delivers firewood. White was not there.

“There’s some evidence right now that ties the suspect to O’Malley’s,” said Clackamas County Sgt. Robert Wurpes. “I can tell you the O’Malley’s business people have been very cooperative.”

Wurpes added the US Marshalls have joined the manhunt.

White is currently wanted on a weapons charge from Pierce County, Washington. He was last seen driving a silver 4-door 2004 Mercedes 320 with a Washington license plate of ANB-7070.
