Massive pileup shuts down I-5 near Albany

ALBANY, Ore. (KOIN) — A huge pileup involving 20 to 25 vehicles shut down Interstate 5 Thursday morning amid heavy snow and ice.

The chain-reaction crash was reported at 8:30 a.m. on I-5 southbound, about three miles north of Albany. Multiple semi-trucks were involved.

I-5 south was shut down and OSP was advising drivers to avoid the area. One lane of the freeway finally reopened by 1 p.m.
