VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — Shots rang out and two people were hurt at a Clark County government building Tuesday afternoon. The suspected shooter was quickly taken into custody and is now under arrest.

The shooting happened at the Center for Community Health on the Vancouver campus of the Portland VA Medical Center, 1601 E. 4th Plain Boulevard, around 4 p.m.

A witness told KOIN 6 News he heard two gunshots and said the police “arrived pretty quickly.” He said he saw two people taken out on stretchers.

The two hurt people were taken to the hospital and their conditions are not known at this time. One of those wounded is a VA employee in Building 17, where the shooting took place.

One employee told KOIN 6 News the shooter is a woman and used to work on the fourth floor.

Employees were evacuated as authorities searched the building, but by 5:30 p.m. the employees were allowed back inside to get their personal belongings.

Investigators remain tight-lipped, but said there is no reason to believe there are any outstanding suspects.
