SALEM, Ore. (KOIN) — Tensions were running high at the state capitol days before Oregon lawmakers go back into session. They’re already wrangling over how they’ll spend your money, how it’s already been spent — and Cover Oregon.
The legislators will zero in on the millions spent on Cover Oregon’s disastrous website. Lawmakers are already scrapping over whose bill demands more accountability and which bill will get to the floor first.
Governor Kitzhaber said Thursday he was aware of the problems before the Cover Oregon site launched, but he still is not holding anyone else accountable.
“Ultimately, I am accountable,” he said.
He won’t directly place blame until a $250,000 review of what went wrong is finished.
Gun control will be another great debate this session. There is a bill to require background checks of anyone buying a gun in Oregon, unless it’s a sale between family members..
Buying pot will also come up. A measure to ask voters to decide whether to legalize recreational marijuana will be debated.
Kitzhaber also told KOIN 6 News that if lawmakers don’t support a new I-5 bridge into Washington, and if Washington lawmakers don’t have a change of heart, he will close the project down.
