PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was struck and killed by a car in Southeast Portland Thursday night.
The victim, identified as 46-year-old Angelo Elton Tupper, was hit around 8:30 p.m. in the 17300 block of Southeast Division Street, police said. He died at the scene.
The driver, 43-year-old Ted Chu, told investigators he was driving east on Division when he saw Tupper lying in the road at the last second. He was unable to swerve in time and struck him.
Portland police learned that Tupper was at a nearby lounge prior to being hit. They are unsure why he was lying in the road.
Chu cooperated with officers and was not intoxicated, police said.
Division was closed for about three hours while emergency responders cleared the scene.
Anyone with information on the crash should call Portland police at 503-823-2208.
