NACHES, Wash. (AP) — The Washington Transportation Department reported Wednesday that U.S. Highway 12 over White Pass will remain closed for a second night due to a washout on the road.
A 45-mile stretch of the highway was closed Tuesday from close to the State Route 410 junction west of Naches to the State Route 123 junction east of Packwood, Wash.
Officials have not estimated when it might reopen.
They say the road is washed out just east of the summit.
Web note: The search is expected to resume Thursday morning for two unaccounted-for hikers believed to have been heading Tuesday toward White Pass. The hikers were following the Pacific Crest Trail.
