KELSO, Wash. (KOIN) — A 56-year-old Kelso man has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of his 82-year-old step-father who was killed during a fight over beer, the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Bruce W. Albee was arrested in Pacific County after he reportedly told deputies that he stole a car Wednesday from Kelso and left a body behind in a home in Kelso.

Albee was immediately taken into custody as Cowlitz County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the house in the 2200-block of Holcomb Spur Road. Inside the residence, they found the body of 82-year-old Marion Rees, according to Chief Deputy Charlie Rosenzweig.

Detectives drove to Pacific County and brought Albee back to Kelso, where he was interviewed. Albee allegedly told them he and Rees got into a fight over beer which turned physical and ended when Albee reportedly strangled Rees.

County records show Albee was booked into jail on one count of second-degree murder. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday.

An autopsy will be performed on Rees’ body later Thursday.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help in learning more about Albee’s and Rees’ activities within the last four days. Callers can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers of Southwest Washington at 360.577.1206 or by calling the sheriff’s office directly at 360.577.3092.
