PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The new season of CBS Survivor starts Wednesday night.
This season, the drama gets personal as family members play against each other in “Survivor: Blood vs. Water.”
It has all the hallmarks of a great season, plus some. Starting Wednesday night, family members — including one Salem mom and former Survivor contestant — will compete against each other. It all comes down to one question: “Is blood thicker than water when big money is on the line?”
Two of the castaways are natives of Salem, Ore.
“Never expect anything!” said “Blood vs. Water” contestant Laura Morett.
Laura Morett and her daughter Ciera Eastin had quite the surprise for this show.
“I thought for sure we were going to be together,” Eastin said.
But leave it to survivor to change that up. In this season, former players like mom Morett from “Survivor Samoa” got to bring a family member along — and then found out they had to compete against each other on opposite tribes.
With only one winner getting $1 million, this means the game is on.
“There are physical challenges that you go toe-to-toe on with loved ones,” Morett said.
Contestants also have the mental game to play too. That’s harder to do when someone knows your buttons already.
“I had so many times when you go into a challenge and you see your mom over there,” Eastin said, “and you know she just wants to kick your butt, and you’re thinking, ‘Mom go easy, come on!’ I’m looking at her like ‘Do you know I’m your daughter?!'”
But that’s the whole point of this season.
“It’s going to be a great season,” she said.
The newest “Survivor” season starts to unfold at 8 p.m. Wednesday on KOIN Channel 6. It’s followed by the season finale of “Big Brother” at 9:30 p.m.
