PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — All Interstate 5 southbound lanes were closed shortly before 10:40 p.m. Monday night for emergency response to a crash reported near the Rose Quarter exit.
Portland Police Sgt. Pete Simpson called this a “multiple car fender-bender.”
Within minutes the right southbound lane had opened up to traffic and tow trucks were on the way to the scene to clear the vehicles.
One person was taken to the hospital by ambulance. However, Simpson said that person does not appear to be seriously injured.
The crash “appears to have been caused by drivers distracted by someone walking along the freeway, possibly in a lane of traffic,” Simpson said in an email to KOIN 6 News.
The crash scene wass expected to be cleared shortly.
