Oregon, Iowa allow gun permits for blind

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Iowa is now issuing gun permits to the vision impaired.

A spokeswoman for a group called Disability Rights Iowa successfully argued that denying gun permits to those who are blind would violate the Americans with Disabilities Act.

But some law enforcement in the Des Moines, Iowa, area are questioning whether the practice is safe.

KOIN 6 News checked with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. There is no vision requirement to get a gun in Oregon either. However, applicants must pass a safety class.
