PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — There were some dramatic moments under Portland’s Burnside Bridge Monday night as a rope rescue team saved two people and their pets who had gone over the seawall’s edge.

Crews found the woman on a small shelf under the west side of the bridge just after 8 p.m. Monday. They said she had two cats and two dogs with her.

A man also fell into the water — and then climbed out onto a pipe.

Two people passing by spotted the stranded group first.

“We were just taking a walk, hoping to check out the moon,” said one. “Then other circumstances happened.”

The two decided there was “no way we could get her out,” said the other, “so I said to him ‘We’d better call 911.'”

Crews hoisted the man up with a rescue harness. They brought the woman and her pets up a ladder.

No one was hurt.

KOIN 6 News is still waiting to learn what they were doing climbing a fence into that restricted area.
