PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 21-year-old man is in serious condition after a paragliding crash on Oregon’s Alsea Bay Beach.

One was already in the air when his 21-year-old brother launched — and a gust of wind took him for a nasty ride.

“He jumped from the cliff right there and he went about 50 yards, drifted into the large fir tree, then fell into the wall and then onto the beach,” said a witness.

Witnesses said they saw the crash from start to finish.

“We watched as he took off and thought, this is exciting, but we got more excitement than we wanted,” said another witness.

Neighbors said it’s unusual for people to para-glide from that location.

The injured brother is now recovering at a hospital in Eugene, Ore.
