Cop car, Mercedes collide in Tigard

TIGARD, Ore. (KOIN) – No one was seriously hurt after a Mercedes Benz allegedly crashed into a Tigard police patrol car Thursday morning.

The police car was on patrol when the Mercedes crashed into it at about 9 a.m. at the intersection of Southwest Pacific Highway and Gaarde Street. According to Tigard police, witnesses told responding officers the Mercedes was northbound on Pacific Highway when it ran a red light and the hit the patrol car.

The officer, who was not named, was taken to a nearby hospital for observation. The Mercedes’ driver, who was also not identified, was cited for careless driving.

A portion of Pacific Highway was temporarily closed following the incident.
