GALES CREEK, Ore. (KOIN) — A 17-year-old driver faces multiple charges after allegedly flipping a Jeep on a winding Washington County road while one person was riding on the roof and another was climbing out of the window.
Abbey Hatch didn’t negotiate the turn from NW Thornburg onto NW Old Wilson River roads just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday, officials said. The Jeep Cherokee went into a ditch and rolled over.
Investigators believe Richard Cutright, 24, was on the roof of the Jeep at the time of the accident, and that 21-year-old Seth Staples was climbing out of the window at the time.
It’s believed the Jeep was traveling more than 30 mph at the time.
Cutright was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, while Staples was airlifted for treatment of internal injuries. Both are expected to recover.
Hatch, of Forest Grove, was charged with DUII, two counts of 4th-degree assault and reckless driving. Other charges are possible.
