Tree snag falls, kills firefighter

DESCHUTES, Ore. (KOIN) — One firefighter died and another was injured when they worked to remove trees in the path of a fire in the Deschutes National Forest.

Officials with the USDA said the two were on a falling crew at the Mt. Washington Wilderness near Little Round Top Mountain when they were injured around 9:15 a.m. Thursday.

The fallers worked for R&K Water Services in Booney Lake, Washington.

The one person died at the scene. The other was rushed to St. Charles Medical Center for treatment, but there is no word on this person’s condition.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
