Boat catches fire on Tomahawk Island

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 30-foot boat caught on fire near Tomahawk Island Thursday afternoon.

Neighbors told KOIN 6 News the boat was recently sold and was having fuel pumped out when something sparked to cause the fire.

Two floating homes on Tomahawk Island were also damaged.

The fire began just before 2 p.m. The boat was tied to a dock at the Tomahawk Island community.

The location of the fire poised some challenges, but the fire was contained to the yacht. Two floating homes were damaged.

Firefighters set up some barriers to catch fuel and debris and prevent hazardous materials from floating down the water.

Neighbors said fires in the marina are rare.
