PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Twelve feet is twice the height of the average man. It’s the length of four baseball bats. And it’s the distance that separates the bridge from the Emery Apartment building.
The Emery is the newest apartment building to rise along the south waterfront. The apartment closest to the bridge is the most expensive — almost $2500 per month.
Apartment officials said the bridge has nice architecture and creates an interesting relationship with the building.
The building was developed with the bridge in mind and a reinforcement on the bridge would prevent a car from crashing off the bridge onto the roof. City planners said, hypothetically, the Emery could have been built even closer to the bridge.
The windows are all double-paned and there is extra sound protection.
Renters begin moving in in September — but the opinions vary from being an ugly building to a nice facility.
