MILWAUKIEE, Ore. (KOIN) — Paramedics took a bicyclist to an area hospital following a crash with a freightliner semi truck on Highway 224 near SE Johnson Road in Milwaukiee.

Crews were called to the scene after 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning when 71 year-old Lawrence Mascotte collided with the truck. Investigators think that a mechanical part on the bicycle failed sending Mascotte underneath the trailer portion of the truck.

A witness saw the crash and pulled in front of the semi truck driven by 58 year-old Craig Johnson to prevent the cyclist from being injured.

Mascotte was taken to Oregon Health & Science University with serious injuries, he was wearing a helmet.
