PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A 34-year-old Scio woman was struck and killed by an SUV while walking with her mother Wednesday night south of Stayton, Ore.
The 34-year-old victim has been identified as Teresa Marie Toepfer.
Linn County Sheriff’s Office reports a 2009 Kia was heading south on Kingston-Jordan Drive, near Sandner Drive, when it hit Toepfer. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Toepfer’s mother, 61-year-old Jacquelyn Pollock from Scio, was walking with her when she was hit. Pollock was not hurt.
The driver of the Kia, identified by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office as 34-year-old Joseph Gassner, also was not hurt.
“Gassner reported he stopped immediately, called 911, and attempted to render aid to Ms. Toepfer,” according to a sheriff’s office release.
He remained at the scene and “was fully cooperative” with law enforcement, reports the sheriff’s office.
Alcohol was likely not a factor. No citations or charges have been issued at this time.
A multi-agency team is investigating.
