PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A suspect allegedly killed himself during a standoff Thursday morning with police who were executing a search warrant at a Southeast Portland home.

At about 6 a.m., a Portland police Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) served a warrant at a home in the 6400 block of Southeast 99th Avenue. According to Portland police, the warrant was part of a drug and weapons investigation by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit.

Portland police report that SERT discovered that a suspect in the case was barricaded in the garage. Crisis negotiators attempted to communicate with the suspect with no success. At about 6:30 a.m., SERT deployed tear gas into the garage, and then entered to find him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The name of the suspect and the details of the initial investigation were not immediately confirmed.
