PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Bike commuters who use the Broadway Bridge will be getting some relief earlier than expected.
The bike lanes and sidewalks on the bridge are expected to reopen early. On Wednesday KOIN 6 News learned that the city plans to reopen the sidewalks by 7 a.m. Thursday. That’s a full day ahead of schedule.
The sidewalks have been closed since Tuesday morning, as crews laid a non-stick surface. The project is designed to make the surface on the city’s second most-popular bridge safer during Portland’s rainy months.
The city recommended cyclists take the streetcar or ride over the Steel Bridge, adding about a mile onto the commute. The Portland Streetcar offered free rides over the Broadway Bridge during the closure.
