PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A 22-year-old bicyclist remains in critical condition following a collision with a garbage truck last week in Southeast Portland.

On Friday morning, Mathew Charles Casperson was hit by a garbage truck at the intersection of Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard and 17th Avenue.

Casperson was transported to a Portland hospital. The driver of the truck, 39-year-old Jason Amundson, cooperated with police and was not hurt.

Investigators determined that Casperson was biking down 17th Avenue and crossing McLoughlin Boulevard when he was struck by the garbage truck, which was attempting to turn left from McLoughlin onto 17th.

Amundson was not impaired at the time, Portland police said. No citations have been issued and the incident is still under investigation.
