TUALATIN, Ore. (KOIN) — Firefighters from around the region attended a memorial on Saturday for John Percin, Jr., the West Linn High School graduate who was one of 19 firefighters killed battling the Yarnell Hill fire in Arizona.
Percin, 24, died June 30. His funeral was held Friday.
At the memorial service at Rolling Hills Community Church, he received full honors for his sacrifice in the line of duty.
This memorial showed the bond firefighters have in life and in death.
“Although John’s life was short, let us try and focus on the positive impacts he had not only on individuals but on the entire communities that he protected,” said Rocky Hanes.
Percin’s family was presented with flags from Gov. Kitzhaber and the Arizona firefighting community.
“It has been said that firefighters never die,” said John Norr of PF&R. “They just burn forever in the hearts of the people whose lives and property they have saved.”
Percin’s friend Max Stiglich said, “It’s just so tragic that happened because he seriously had such a bright future ahead of him.”
