(KOIN) – Friends found a motorcyclist seriously hurt several hours after he crashed off a highway near Monmouth overnight Wednesday.

Thirty-five-year-old Jacob Godfrey of Falls City was traveling west on Highway 223 when his 2003 Yamaha motorcycle went off the road and crashed into a tree sometime late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are unsure exactly when the crash occurred.

When Godfrey did not show up for work Thursday morning, his friends went looking for him. At about 3 p.m., they spotted him in some roadside berry bushes, where had been ejected after the collision.

Godfrey was airlifted to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Corvallis, OSP reported. As of Friday he was in fair condition.

OSP is investigating the cause of the crash.
