VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — A 37-year-old man is being held on $250,000 bond after allegedly choking a woman while trying to kidnap her from the parking lot of a Safeway.

The woman was saved by a witness who called 911 and scared the man off.

Emily Kountz told KOIN 6 News she never expected to see something like this as she took a trip to the grocery store on East Mill Plain Boulevard in Vancouver.

“He had the victim in a choke hold with one arm,” she said. “She was halfway in to the passengers seat, he had her pushed there (and) in one hand he had a box knife.”

The woman, in her 50s, was being choked and couldn’t speak.

“I’ve never seen somebody so afraid before in my life,” Kountz said. “Her eyes, when she locked eyes with me to say call 911, I could see she was terrified, horrified.”

She quickly called 911 as she stood just outside the car.

“When he saw I called 911 he looked up from what he was doing and looked at me dead in the eyes and got off her and started to casually walk away.”

Police caught up with Timothy Parker when he returned to the Safeway parking lot hours later. In his possession, police said, were box cutters.

Kountz identified him.

” I think today as I look back probably (I saved the woman’s life) because I really hate to think what would have happened to her.”

Parker faces charges of assault, attempted kidnapping and robbery.
