PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The repaving project that will disrupt a giant swath of Portland area traffic began Friday night when eastbound I-84 will be closed between I-5 and I-205.
Over the next month, both sides of I-84 will be repaved and closed at various times, re-routing traffic and slowing commute times.
Depending on the weather and some other factors, the schedule for the project is:
- I-84 eastbound closed from I-5 to I-205 for paving from 10 p.m. Friday, July 12 through 5 a.m. Monday, July 15.
- I-84 westbound closed from I-205 to I-5 for paving from 10 p.m. Friday, July 19 through 5 a.m. Monday July 22
- I-84 westbound closed from I-205 to I-5 for lane striping and sign replacement from 11 p.m. Saturday, August 3 through 5 a.m. Monday, August 5.
The east-west alternate routes include Powell Boulevard (US-26), Sandy Boulevard, Burnside Street and Lombard Street (US-30.) The blue and red TriMet MAX trains will run the length of the I-84 project area.
Overall, the project will resurface more than five miles of I-84 and its ramps between I-5 and I-205.
