PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — On Wednesday a 38-year-old man was arrested on multiple sex assault charges by Portland police.
The man, identified as Jeffrey Neyle McAllister, faces charges that police said “stem from McAllister’s contact with multiple vulnerable adult women seeking medical treatment at the Legacy Emanuel Medical Center emergency room during McAllister’s employment as a Registered Nurse.”
“The chances of additional victimization is high,” said Portland Police Bureau Spokesperson Pete Simpson. “We don’t know how many other victims he could have out there.”
They do know, Simpson said, that “the charges in the case are very serious, [with] multiple felony sex charges.”
KOIN 6 News reached out to Legacy Emanuel about its background check process for employees. The hospital responded with “no comment.”
The Portland Police Bureau investigation began when a patient came forward in April 2013 with allegations that McAllister had made “inappropriate sexual contact” in the Emanuel Hospital ER, according to a police news release.
“Subsequent investigation and assistance from Investigator Jessica Van Horn of the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN), made detectives aware of additional victims,” the bureau reported.
McAllister reportedly worked at Legacy as an ER Technician from 2005 to 2008 and as an RN in the emergency room from 2008 to 2013. As of April 2013, McAllister was no longer employed by Legacy.
Portland police report McAllister also was a Legacy Health System security officer from 2004 to 2005, a Beaverton police officer from 2002 to 2004, a Seaside police officer from 1996 to 2002, and a reserve officer for the Independence Police Department in 1997.
McAllister also has work history as a nurse with St. Vincent Hospital (Providence) in Portland and Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles, Ore., PPB reported.
The registered nurse is now on administrative leave from his current employers, St. Vincent Hospital and Mid-Columbia Medical Center.
A KOIN 6 News crew went to his northeast Portland home Wednesday night. No one came to the door.
Neighbors describe him as a family man, with a wife and a 7-year-old son.
“It’s a very disturbing case,” Simpson said.
McAllister was booked Wednesday into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Rape in the First Degree (two counts), Sex Abuse in the First Degree (three counts), Sex Abuse in the Second Degree, Sex Abuse in the Third Degree, and Sodomy in the First Degree (four counts). he’s expected to appear in court to face those charges Thursday afternoon.
