BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN) — An armed robbery caught on camera at a Dotty’s Deli in Beaverton turned out to be a hoax.
That’s according to the Beaverton Police Department Wednesday.
Police have arrested two men they say were involved earlier this month in pulling off what the department is calling a “staged” robbery. This was at the 2654 SW Cedar Hills Blvd. Dotty’s Deli.
Shortly after 2 a.m. July 2, 23-year-old clerk Raymond Wille reported he had been robbed by a lone gunman. KOIN 6 News covered the search for what appeared to be a brazen suspect.
The clerk told Beaverton police that a masked suspect approached him as he was smoking outside the business, and put a gun in his back. The report was that the suspect ordered the employee back into the deli, took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled.
But, police now say, at least one of the suspects involved in this “robbery” was Wille’s roommate, 29-year old Sonny Her. Police believe Her, Willie and another suspect staged the entire thing.
The third suspect has not yet been arrested.
Beaverton Police report that if the clerk purporting to have been robbed was in on it, the crime is considered to be a theft rather than a robbery. Both men are being charged with Theft I.
