Bystanders hold stabbing suspect by Union Station

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A woman was stabbed repeatedly near Union Station, and her alleged assailant was held down by three men under the Broadway Bridge until police arrived, according to official reports.

The stabbing happened shortly before 4 p.m. Monday, police said in a release.

Witness Matt Osborn told KOIN 6 News the woman had her throat slashed by a man who then took off.

“Me and my friend ran after him,” said Osborn. “And we caught him and we held him until the cops came.”

On their way to Union Station, officers received word that at least three men stepped in, chasing down and tackling the suspect. Osborn and others were holding the suspect under the Broadway Bridge on NW Naito Parkway when police arrived.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
However, Osborn was in what appeared to be a state of shock for some time after police arrived.

The injured woman was alive when first responders arrived. She was found outside 945 NW Naito Parkway and was rushed to the hospital with what are being described by authorities as “multiple stab wounds.” Her condition is not known at this time.

Portland Fire & Rescue reported the woman knew the man who stabbed her. He remained in custody as of Monday night, and has yet to be identified by police.

No word on what may have led up to the stabbing.
